Academy Committee

The Academy Committee develops and presents monthly or more frequent virtual programs on key environmental issues and other matters that are of interest to members of the Association, and, in some cases, both former and current staff of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and others in the environmental field. In addition, the Association is working on programs that support current or recently terminated EPA staff. The programs are recorded and posted on the Association website for individuals who couldn’t see the live event.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee promotes both social and professional interaction among members, working with local affiliates in the ten regions, laboratory and field offices, and Washington DC on ways to recruit new members to the Association as well as support current members. The committee’s purpose is to coordinate and engage local members through social events, celebrations, and other activities to encourage connection with colleagues and to further the EPA AA mission.

Relations with EPA Committee

The Committee on EPA Relations began as a committee on mentoring. An MOU was first signed with EPA in 2014. It has been amended several times. The latest was signed August 2024 and expires in 2029. The function of the Committee has evolved over the years with the EPA AA members working directly with EPA to identify and scope out projects, ensuring that the terms in the MOU are met including requirements for forms that address non-compensation for volunteers and potential conflicts of interest, etc. Current work includes Coaching of current employees by Members and possible mentoring assistance.

Education Committee

The Education Committee seeks opportunities at all levels (e.g., elementary, secondary, and college) to provide information on environmental issues from both a historical and current perspective. Members may share expertise and experiences firsthand in the classroom as a guest lecturer, offer materials for teachers to use, and participate in roundtable discussions on environmental careers, history, and challenges.

Communication Committee

The Communication Committee’s purpose is to inform, educate, and engage the membership through outreach campaigns, periodic newsletters, social media, and other avenues.
