Edward P. Kenney, 73, of Lombard, formerly of Arlington Heights, was released from his thirteen-year battle with cancer on April 13, 2026.
Dear husband of 42 years to Joanne Kenney (nee Ziehlke). They met at work in Chicago and began dating. They enjoyed many White Sox games together and eventually married on June 2, 1984, in Northbrook, IL.
Ed and Joanne were blessed with three children: Marylyn (Kevin) Grise, Emily Drafta, and Matt Kenney.
Caring Opa and namesake to Kenney Drafta and Caleb Paul Grise.
Loving brother to Michael Kenney, James (Jean Fennessy) Kenney, and Thomas (Andi) Kenney; and brother-in-law to Lyn (James) Ziehlke Reece.
Beloved uncle, nephew, and friend to many.
Edward was an active servant of the Lord at The Chapel in Palatine, IL, where he volunteered in the children’s ministry, participated in the men’s Bible study, and helped provide Thursday night meals. He had a great passion for contributing to Samaritan’s Purse by organizing the Operation Christmas Child shoebox campaign each year and faithfully filled ten shoeboxes with toys and essentials for children around the world.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and went on to George Washington University, where he graduated from law school. After graduation, Edward worked as a lawyer for many years. He spent the bulk of his career at Sidley & Austin, where he retired in 2019.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed golfing, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. You could always find him at events for his children and grandchildren, whether a concert for Emily, a play for Matt, or Kenney’s sporting events. Edward volunteered for the PTA at Park View Elementary School in Lombard, IL, where Kenney attends, and faithfully took Kenney to school every day, even on Emily’s days off.
Edward was known for his loyalty, his servant’s heart, and loving his family more than himself. Joanne was blessed to be loved by Ed more than words could ever express.
Donations to Samaritan’s Purse , PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 may be made in Edward’s name.
